Smoke Detector Regulations

The Massachusetts Department of Fire Services has developed and will enact (on April 5, 2010) new smoke detector regulations. The regulations apply to those single and multi-family homes that were built before 1975.

The regulations require two types of smoke detectors to be installed in the home depending upon the location in the home. Local fire departments have some flexibility in how they implement these new regulations.

MAR Legal Counsel and a representative from the Massachusetts Division of Fire Safety presented a webinar this week, watch it here.

Your Association will be holding a FREE breakfast for DR’s and Managers on April 9th from 8:30 – 10 a.m. We’re inviting several local fire officials to discuss how the new regulations will take effect in each community. Registration and more information to follow!
